As you may have guessed, this blog has been terminated. It was nice for a time to have a place to store my thoughts, but I no longer wish for the world to observe my every day life. I have moved on to other projects. This site will be soon replaced with some thing else. Thanks for reading.
As you've all figured out, I've taken a bit of a hiatus from this blog. Summer does that. I'll be back and better than ever in early September. First on the to-do list: "What I Did Over Summer Vacation." :)
This editorial was submitted to and published in the RBR school newspaper
Much is expected of my generation. All we ever hear is how we're the future of this nation. Hearing that scares me, makes me look around at the State of this Union and wonder what went wrong.
It seems to me that the root of this problem is in the leading generation of today. There is a major lack of inspiration from our "leaders." There are no revolutions fighting for change and no proponents of meaningful advancement of our society. Meanwhile, our civil rights are disappearing like cupcakes at a birthday party and no one's bringing out a new tray.
It sickens me to hear a peer ask an adult, "Whom should I vote for?" This lack of true leadership has dulled us to the point that most don't even care. We don't have a Martin Luther King, a Gandhi, or a Goldman. How can we be expected to stand up and take control of this country if we have no one to follow? Something needs to be done.
A new civil rights movement is upon us whether we like it or not. The current regimistration needs to be replaced before it does anymore damage. The world is quickly losing respect for our country and with that goes the “superpower-dom that we love so much. The “War on Terror, Bush’s blanket term for any violence that occurs under his orders, is getting ugly. With visions of Vietnam in their minds, many have begun to change their views and realize that we need to bring our troops home. This is a good sign, but it is still not enough. A greater opposition needs to be formed against our President’s greedy and personal war if it’s going to be stopped.
Meanwhile, “terrorists yet to be charged are being tortured in secret prisons around the world and in our name. The U.N. has finally called on us to close these locations, but what will stop the administration from refusing? The United Nations will never sanction the United States. It just won’t happen. Besides, President Bush doesn’t really see a problem with breaking the law…he is the president.
So I urge you, the children and young adults of my generation, make a change. We need people to step up and make changes. Attend a rally, start a peace advocacy organization, conserve water and gas, call your senator, write an editorial. Whatever it is. We need to bond together and turn this country, and this world, around. Do something…before it is too late.
I changed my mind and stuff so I'm just going to post something that I submitted to the school newspaper. Ha.
I've been working on something really long for this site about some of my feelings on the state of the nation and it's citizens. Looking forward to publishing it midweek.
